Those who read our quaterly Journal know that, through a lady sponsor of Volontariat Marseille committee, Roger McGowen, a black American sentenced to death for a crime he certainly did not commit, is sponsoring a little girl of Oupalam and will begin soon a correspondence with the young boys of Souriya Home.
Roger has spent very long years in the death row of several Texas prisons. Many people and organizations mobilize, worldwide, for the ultimate injustice, his capital execution, would not take place.... in a country where some judges approve a sentence, including death, if the procedures of the trial are respected and regardless of the substance of the case!
But the good news, relayed by the media, gives a hope to this prisoner who is still on the death row and to all his supporters: the judge handling the case of Roger has responded to the appeal, filed by the lawyers in July 2009, admitting the irregularities in the trial and challenging his death sentence.
The State may agree to a new trial or commute the sentence to imprisonment for life.
Hope is there, but the door is half-opened only: the Texas prosecutor may also appeal this decision.
The lawyers continue to fight to prove his innocence.
