An important goal of Volontariat is employment [solidarity by the Development]: for adults, men and women, widows or abandoned women with children, etc. Vocational trainings are provided for the boys, especially those who discontinued their school studies, rehabilitation of cured but handicapped leprosy people and other disabled persons.
This policy is developed jointly by the social workers and the Sponsorship programme, by researching employers, by creating crafts units, by allowing children to join Institutes in higher education, by vocational training to get technical diplomas or by way of apprenticeship.
Atelier Shanti, (Peace, in Sanskrit), an association affiliated to Volontariat, is a rehabilitation centre for the disabled, which includes weaving, sewing and embroidery sections. Production is made by cured leprosy patients, by physically handicapped men and women and by women with social handicaps.
At Shakti Vihar, are the main production or training units. Adolescents have the opportunity to learn a craft and develop their skill at:
Liege carpentry section. The trainees are boys who discontinued their studies.
Kalai art: painting and greeting cards,
Minerva for fancy jewelry with beads,
Tarini: sewing and tailoring clothes for crèches, KG and older children
Uyarvu: learning to cut and bind notebooks which are given to all the sponsored children every year.
Section Olivier is dedicated to computer classes, an opportunity for our children from poor background to learn and use computers.
Vocational courses are organized when there is a demand from youngsters to start a course. Such courses were Vidou: theoretical and practical industrial design applied to construction, and Minnal: training for electricians. After the training, they had good results in terms of employment.
But we notice that the boys are less and less interested to learn any manual subject, too often discredited by the Indian society.
